WILBRAHAM, MA (PRWEB) MARCH 23, 2016
FloDesign Sonics, Inc. is proud to announce its participation in the White House Water Summit on March 22, 2016.
The White House Water Summit, held on United Nations World Water Day, addressed critical water issues facing the global community and focused attention on the vital work being done by innovative companies and organizations like FloDesign Sonics in order to sustainably secure access to the precious natural resource.
In 2012, the National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded a grant to FloDesign Sonics, a grant that has moved through two successful phases and is now entering a third. This critical NSF grant has funded groundbreaking work from FloDesign Sonics, work that positions FloDesign Sonics to make a unique contribution to the White House Water Summit. Dr. Prakash Balan, Program Director with the NSF Small Business Innovation Research Program (SBIR), explains the importance of the NSF grant: "This technology developed in the NSF funded research grant made to FloDesign Sonics represents a significant technological step forward in the use of acoustic waves as an elegant and efficient way to achieve challenging separations in a broad spectrum of manufacturing and production processes."
Dr. Bart Lipkens, Chief Technology Officer for FloDesign Sonics, adds, “The NSF SBIR grant resulted in a technology that provides a green, sustainable, and environmentally friendly oil water separation system for the oil and gas industry."
The White House Water Summit highlights the innovation fostered by the partnership of the NSF and companies like FloDesign Sonics. Not only does NSF funding encourage the development of technology that sustainably preserves access to clean water, but the funding is also a critical component in attracting the investment necessary to make companies like FloDesign Sonics profitable.
Jason Dionne, Founding Engineer at FloDesign Sonics, further explains: “The opportunity to present at the White House further solidifies a long relationship with the National Science Foundation. The NSF not only acted as our first substantial means of outside funding, but gave FloDesign Sonics its first 'stamp' of approval; I see the National Science Foundation as the initial catalyst for the rapid growth of FloDesign Sonics. The NSF recognized our platform technology as novel and emerging, which allowed other companies and investors to see the potential as well.”
The opportunity to participate in the White House Water Summit is both an acknowledgement of FloDesign Sonics’ revolutionary contributions to the vital work of improving access to clean water and also an affirmation of FloDesign Sonics’ foundational belief that the marriage of science and business enables innovative companies to do well by doing good.
About FloDesign Sonics
FloDesign Sonics is changing the separation, filtration and diagnostic markets through a novel acoustic technology. By leveraging breakthroughs in the use of 3D non-linear acoustic standing waves, FloDesign Sonics is able to capture, separate and purify both homogeneous and heterogeneous mixtures without using any physical membranes, chemicals, or centrifugation. Our proprietary technology has numerous applications in a variety of markets including life sciences, oil and gas, food and beverage and industrial processing. The first commercial application is in bioprocess separations where FloDesign Sonics is applying acoustic technology to the manufacturing of life saving bio-pharmaceuticals.
